in my kitchen, in misery

I thought I was invincible when it came to cutting onions.

Never a tear shed when chopping up any type, really. Red, yellow, sweet, white – they were no match for me.

Until I tried chopping up an onion when I was giving my eyes a break from my contacts and wore my glasses, instead.

Turns out, my contacts were acting as little shields for my eyes, blocking out the fumes that make normal, non-blind folks break out into tears when they cut an onion.

I was reduced to normalcy, no longer special – and I needed goggles.

Special thanks to Jason for catching this embarrassment with a camera…
